Bag secured. Star secured. The Indiana Pacers and Tyrese Haliburton have agreed to a designated maximum rookie extension that will run through the 2028-29 season.
5 years, $260 million. That’s the largest contract in Pacers history by a mile (more than double Jermaine O’Neal’s $126 million over 7 years) and he’s worth every cent.
“We want Ty here for as long as he wants to be here,” Kevin Pritchard said at his end-of-season press conference in April. “I don’t think that’s going to be too complicated.”
This alone makes the Pacers off-season a good one. Haliburton has blossomed with the Pacers into an All-Star and potential All-NBA level talent. In the opening moments of free agency they agreed to a deal with Bruce Brown on a 2-year, $45 million deal with a team option on the second season. Brown will help a ton on point of attack defense and is a versatile role player that can do a lot of little things to help teams win games. We’ll see what else they look to do to add to what’s shaping up to be a fun team next season. Tyrese showed his excitement on Twitter.
