Indiana Pacers Injury Report: Johnny Furphy suffers torn ACL, other updates

The worst fear is the reality for the Indiana Pacers and Johnny Furphy. The Pacers promising prospect went down to floor after a dunk against the Raptors, immediately holding his knee with one hand and banging his fist on the court with the other. An image that Pacers fans surely have seen enough of for a lifetime.

Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype reports that Furphy underwent an MRI in New York today and it confirmed he tore the ACL in his right knee.

Furphy had been a quiet bright spot during this dark season, making a case for himself to be in the rotation next year when the games matter again. He started in 21 of his 35 games played this season while solidifying his case as one of the team’s most physical perimeter defenders and one of its best rebounders.

The 21-year-old forward was one of the players that would have benefited the most from increased minutes over these last 30 games of a lost season where development becomes the focus for the team. Instead, he suffers a devastating injury that will keep him out the rest of this season and likely part of the next.

This is hell. Get well soon, Johnny Furphy.

Elsewhere on the roster, three players are listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the New York Knicks: Ivica Zubac (left ankle sprain), TJ McConnell (sore hamstring), and Aaron Nesmith (left hand strain). We may get Zubac’s debut with the team ahead of the All Star break. Seeing the new center against the Knicks would certainly offer an interesting look into parts of the matchup for next year.
