Glenn Robinson III’s severe ankle sprain has gone from taking a quarter of his season to at least half of 2017-18 for the breakout candidate.

The Indiana Pacers announced that Robinson’s surgery was successful to repair medial and lateral ligaments in his left ankle but added that he would be expected to be out for the next three to four months. 

Originally after the injury, the team expected him to be out until the beginning of December. This new timeline pushes Robinson’s return into mid-January to mid-February, potentially all the way past the All-Star Break, which likely means that there won’t be a repeat opportunity for Dunk Dog in this year’s dunk contest.

Robinson looked poised for a breakout season in the final year of his contract with the Pacers. Bojan Bogdanovic is the starting small forward, but with a strong preseason Robinson may have been pushing his way into the lineup as Bogdanovic struggled to make shots in the four preseason contests.

The Pacers wing depth is limited past Robinson as Damien Wilkins is likely to serve as the 10th man in the rotation while GR3 is out. Lance Stephenson and TJ Leaf may also pick up extra minutes at small forward during the first half of the season.
