Wilkins, Uthoff look likely to make team as Pacers waive three players

Update: Jarrod Uthoff has since been waived as well.

The Indiana Pacers announced today that they waived Ben Moore, Trey McKinney-Jones and DeQuan Jones.

This means that Damien Wilkins and Jarrod Uthoff will likely take the final two spots on the roster. Alex Poythress and Edmond Sumner have 2-way contracts and don’t count on the 15-man roster.

It’s also possible that Alex Poythress could get promoted to the 15-man roster with Uthoff then taking his 2-way spot.

For Wilkins, his 4-year exodus from the NBA is over and at 37 years of age he’s made the Pacers squad and will likely have a role off the bench while Glenn Robinson III is out. An impressive achievement.

In his rookie season, Uthoff played well enough with the Mad Ants to earn some time with the Dallas Mavericks at the end of last year.

The Pacers could still waive Uthoff and either keep a roster spot open or look to the free agent market for the final spot.

The three waived players are all likely to join the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Ben Moore signed with the intention of joining the G-League affiliate if he didn’t make the opening day roster and McKinney-Jones has been a Mad Ants veteran for the past couple of seasons.
