Lance Stephenson will be a free agent. The Indiana Pacers have decided to decline his team option and make him a free agent according to Shams Charania.
The team option was for $4.3 million this season. Stephenson re-joined the Pacers at the end of the 2016-17 regular season and instantly found his game again after bouncing around the league with five different teams in three years.
Kevin Pritchard seemed to hint that this was a possibility by mentioning the Pacers would have $20 million in cap space and wanted to keep the top six or seven players from last year’s team, which seemed to cut the line right at Stephenson.
Whether Pritchard can keep fans from rioting due to the loss of a fan favorite will depend on what he’s able to add to the team once free agency begins.
